The Avon Brewery is a Victorian pub with an impressive and eye catching cut glass bow window (photo 1). The glass advertises ‘OHB Whisky’ and ‘Dorchester Ales’ from the Eldridge Pope Brewery who owned the pub until the early 2000s (photo 2). Beneath the glass is some lovely Victorian mosaic tiling and it’s clear that Eldridge Pope planned to make a splash with the pub, 40 miles from their home town in Dorset.
The pub is close to the centre of Salisbury and has a long room leading to long garden leading down to the River Avon. It’s essentially a locals pub though tourists are welcomed, and we had a tasty early evening meal in the garden. Beers are now from the Marstons range including Ringwood and Hobgoblin.
There’s live music at weekends and an open mic night on Wednesdays.
