The Bridge Tavern is in a fascinating location, right beneath the Tyne Bridge between two of its stanchions. I assume the bridge was built first (it opened in 1928) and the pub was squeezed in later (photo 1).
The decor inside is industrial chic with ceiling pipes and steel columns (photo 2). There are up to seven changing cask beers with one regular house beer, Tavernale brewed by Wylam, along with a smallish selection of craft keg beers. The food is modern and tasty and is served all day.
The pub had its own brewery until a couple of years ago, and the brewery kit is still at the back of the pub (photo 3). On my last visit in late 2023 I met two brewers who said they hoped to restart brewing.
