Ancient Pubs

These are the very oldest pubs in the UK, most of them amazing survivors. They are 16th century or older, i.e. which date from the 1500s or before, and have always been pubs. There are actually relatively few pubs that genuinely go back this far (though many more claim to) and most are solid half-timbered or stone houses built by wealthy merchants or monasteries.
