The Coach and Horses is on a quiet side street right in the centre of Shrewsbury and a great place to have a break from the shopping or sightseeing. It’s been in the Good Beer Guide for over 20 years and serves Salopian Oracle, Shropshire Gold and Stonehouse Station Bitter as regulars and often a dark beer as one of the two guests. Food is pub classics with interesting alternatives like duck breast and venison burgers.
It’s not too obvious from the outside but the building dates from the late 16th century and is Grade II listed (photo 1). The interior is nowhere near as ancient but it does have an old bar counter and 40 year old fixed seating (photo 2). There are two other rooms, a lovely snug with wood panelling, stained glass and an old Bass mirror (photo 3) and at the rear of the pub, a dining room.
Outside, flower baskets on the upper wall and a planter by the doorway brighten up the pub in the summer months.
