Mountain Daisy, Sunderland

150 Hylton Road
Millfield
Sunderland
SR4 7XT

The Mountain Daisy in the Millfield area of Sunderland is a substantial building with a square corner tower and five Flemish gables (photo 1). You enter into a large L shaped bar but the main highlight is the buffet bar at the back. This is tiled from floor to ceiling and has no less than seven tiled paintings of scenes from the north east (photos 3, 4 & 5). In the corner is a magnificent ceramic bar counter, one of only 14 in the UK (photo 2). This room is the Purple Lily Bistro Bar and food is served lunchtimes and evenings.

The main bar has recently been pleasantly refurbished and is fairly quiet during the day. It gets a lot busier in the evenings with bingo nights on Monday and karaoke on Fridays.

There’s some nice original stained glass in the main bar showing 17th century drinkers (photo 6) and the door to the buffet has a lovely old cut glass window (photo 7).
