Red Lion, Whitehall

48 Parliament Street
020 7930 5826

The Red Lion in Whitehall is a stone’s throw from Big Ben and across the road from 10 Downing Street, and is likely to be full of tourists and civil servants. You might also find a few MPs in there, and the pub has a division bell to summon them back to Parliament to vote.

The Grade II listed pub dates from the turn of the 19th century and the original mahogany bar and other fittings from that era still survive. It’s a Fullers Ale and Pie House and serves food all day along with a range of Fullers beers.

The photo shows a Routemaster red bus passing the pub on the 159 route to Streatham, shortly before it was withdrawn from normal service.
