Traditional Town Pub, 1* Heritage Pub

The Errigle is a large suburban community pub on the south side of Belfast that also happens to be one of the best bars in the city for choice of beer. It’s a reliable place for cask ale with two or three on handpump along with six craft keg taps from both local and British breweries. The pub updates its list of beers on Untapped. For the cask ale head for the stylish Oak Lounge at the rear of the pub (take the Jameson Street entrance and turn right).

The Oak Lounge still has its 1935 oak panelled walls, beams, art deco stained glass windows and some original furniture. It’s also one of the few pubs anywhere in the UK that still has table service, and one of the waiters will bring your drink to the table. The best time to visit is probably Saturday afternoon when you can enjoy some traditional music along with your ale.

There’s another much smaller wood panelled bar called the Bunker which has its own door further along Jameson Street and has a hatch to the Oak Lounge bar counter. Both these bars open at 5pm mid week and 2pm Saturday and Sunday.

The rest of the pub opens earlier and has a large, modernised U shaped main bar and two other bars. There’s more trad music in the Pinewood Bar on Tuesday evenings plus  live bands occasional weekends and special occasions. There’s a weekly quiz, a monthly art class, sport on TV and food is available until late every day.

The are plenty of buses from Donegall Square East in the city centre to the Errigle Inn.
