If you’re going to open a cafe bar, the Wapentake is the way to do it. Good food from 10am including a great choice of breakfasts, and three good quality cask ales on the bar. Beers are mainly from the usual suspects (for Leeds) like Kirkstall and Five Points but there’s often a changing beer from innovative independents like Zapato. Good quality coffee is available all day.
There’s a cosy pub-like bar downstairs and a more cafe-like bar upstairs with dining tables and TVs for occasional sports events. For budding musicians and music fans there’s an open mike evening twice a month.
Wapentakes were administrative areas used in Yorkshire in Viking times and were similar to the Saxon hundreds.
