The Old Bank of England is one of an increasing number of pubs in grand Victorian buildings which were not originally pubs (photo 1). The name of this one gives the game away and it was the Law Courts branch of the Bank of England from 1888 until 1975. After a period as a building society it was converted to a pub in 1994 by Fullers Brewery who kept the ornate interior with its gallery and ceiling. The chandeliers though, were replaced by McMullens when they took over the pub a few years ago (photos 2 & 3).
The pub serves McMullen’s beers along with an extensive menu of pub food, and a separate gluten-free menu.
