The St Kew Inn is a picturesque stone built pub standing next to the 15th century Grade I listed St James the Great church (photo 1). Inside the bar area has a slate-flagged floor and a large fireplace with a range (photo 2).

The excellent food is the main draw here and the pub won the The St Austell Brewery Food Pub of the Year award in 2019. It also features in Estrella Damm’s Top 50 Gastropubs. St Austell beers are served both on handpump and direct from casks behind the bar. There are also guest cask ales, local ‘Cornish Rattler’ cider from Healey’s and Tarquin Cornish gin.

The pub dates from the early 1800s but stands on the site of an earlier pub which dates back to at least the early 1700s. The building may have been the one which housed the masons constructing the church in the 15th century.

The pub is haunted by a teenage girl whose skeleton was found by builders in the 1970s. Her apparition makes an appearance when further alterations are carried out to the pub.
