Traditional Town Pub, 1* Heritage Pub
The Adam and Eve has a decent claim to be the oldest pub in Norwich, and it certainly looks the part. It’s a 17th century building with a distinctive brick and flint Dutch gable. The low beamed main room (the ‘top bar’) has two ancient settles, a quarry tiled floor and some fine old panelling. The tiny snug dates from the 1930s has its original parquet floor and brick fireplace.
There are two regular real ales, Theakston’s Old Peculier and Adnam’s bitter, and two guest ales from Norfolk breweries. The Adam and Eve is the only pub in Norwich to sell the famous 5.6% Old Peculier Old Ale (from Yorkshire) and the beer is in high demand.
The garden is well known for its award winning outdoor floral displays in the summer (though my photos were taken in March, sorry!). The landlady at the Adam and Eve has been in charge for an impressive 25 years.
