The Agricultural (or Aggie) is a solid Victorian sandstone edifice close to Penrith Castle and the railway station (photo 1). It’s a popular food pub and on summer evenings can be packed inside and out with diners. It sells four changing real ales, usually a mix of local and national beers. It also offers accommodation in 5 en-suite bedrooms.
It is notable for its Victorian shuttered and panelled bar counter, one of very few remaining anywhere (photo 2). The sash screens are in working order and reach right up to the ceiling.
