Traditional Town Pub, 3* Heritage Pub

The Alexandra is in a residential neighbourhood in Edgeley, a short walk from Stockport railway station.

It’s a beautifully preserved Edwardian pub with a drinking lobby and five rooms. It was built in 1911 for Bells Brewery and is an imposing red brick building with painted stone banding. Most of the exterior windows have etched glass displaying the pub name or the room name.

Inside, the lobby has a mosaic tiled floor, art nouveau floral tiling on all the walls and its original curved bar counter. The rooms off the lobby have most of their original features as well, with fixed bench seating and a mix of stained glass and etched glass windows. The doors to the rooms have etched glass windows telling you its purpose (Tap Room, Smoke Room, Bar Parlour etc.). The Alexandra really is an amazing survivor.

It’s now owned by Robinsons Brewery and usually has Unicorn (the bitter), Dizzy Blonde and Trooper on handpump. Burgers are served lunchtimes and evenings. Pool players have their own room (formerly the Billiards room) in the single storey annexe. Outside is a recently added decking area with comfy wicker garden chairs, ideal for the Stockport sunshine!
