Modern Pub
This award winning and atmospheric micropub is hidden down a cobbled side street in the centre of Skipton (photo 1). The Beer Engine made it to the top four in Camra’s national Pub of the Year competition in 2023 and was Yorkshire Pub of the Year in both 2023 and 2024. It was taken over by Adam Davies and Steven Gregory (photo 2) in 2021 in the middle of lockdown and within a year they had expanded into the premises next door.
Despite the increase in size it’s still clearly a classic micropub with cask beers and keg beers in two cooled cabinets, and a fridge next to the bar with bottles and cans (photo 4). The beers are a well chosen selection from a cross the UK and there is a also a range of real ciders, wines, soft drinks and mulled wine at Christmas.
Pubs described as “friendly and welcoming” are almost a cliche but it’s absolutely true at the Beer Engine and Adam and Steven are always happy to guide you through the choice of beers.
