The Boltmakers is a Keighley institution, a Timothy Taylor’s pub only a mile from the brewery (photo 1). It sells all the brewery’s regular beers, including Boltmaker, the award winning best bitter which was renamed after the pub in 2012. It also has one guest beer and often one of Taylor’s seasonal beers. The dark mild alternates with Landlord Dark. It’s a regular winner of awards from the local Camra branch, and there’s also a good range of malt whiskies and gins.
It’s a small friendly pub, usually buzzing, with seating areas at the front and back (photo 3). The rear snug has a large photo of Taylor’s last cooper Billy Pye, working on one of the barrels (photo 5).
I’ve sneaked in a couple of old photos, one of the pub at night in 2014 (photo 2), and another showing the inn sign way back in 1993 (photo 4). The image of the boltmaker at work was used over many years and you can see a version on the 2014 inn sign. He sadly disappeared in Taylor’s rebranding exercise around 2017.
