The Cock is an unspoilt rural gem in the Suffolk countryside, a lovely old thatched pink washed pub dating from the eighteenth century (photo 1).

The pub had two sets of long serving licensees who made few changes and as a result the pub interior is a real timewarp. There are two bars and beer is brought from casks at the back. The left room is the main bar and the room to the right with quarry tiled floor, panelled walls and original bar counter is called the Old Bar (photo 2).

One of the benches in the main bar has a hole, reinforced by a metal frame, which is used for the ancient game of pitch penny. The game was especially popular in East Anglia and is also known as Tossing the Penny.

And the pub is one of very few remaining that still has outside toilets!

The Cock serves Adnam’s Bitter and Greene King Abbot plus a changing local beer and a real cider from Castlings Heath Cottage. Food cooked by the landlady is available throughout the lunch and evening opening times.
