The Eastfield is a corner pub in Eastney with an impressive tiled frontage advertising United Pale Ales and an imposing parapet at roof level (photos 1 & 2). It was designed in 1906 by A.E. Cogswell who was responsible for several other showpiece pubs in Portsmouth and Southsea. This was a period when the authorities were forcing the closure of many pubs owned by the breweries and new licences were hard to achieve. A local builder acquired the license for the Eastfield, promising a freehouse, but then immediately sold it to Portsmouth United Breweries!

The ornate interior has lots of original features, some Edwardian and some from the 1950s. It is Grade II listed and is one of the few Victorian/Edwardian pubs in Portsmouth to feature in Camra’s list of Historic Pub Interiors.

The Eastfield is a community pub with a pool room, darts, a garden, daily snacks and a weekly meat raffle. Live music is big here and there’s something on most weekends. There are four cask beers and food is available Sunday lunchtime and afternoon.
