Falcon, Arncliffe

The Falcon is an old dales pub caught in a timewarp, with an interior pretty much unchanged since the 1950s. There are three rooms with old tables and settles and beer is dispensed straight from the cask by jug. For TV fans with long memories, the Falcon was the original Woolpack in the series Emmerdale Farm.

The beer served from the jug is Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker and one other beer is usually available. Food is served lunchtimes and evenings and the pub has rooms to let.

Arncliffe is a beautiful, remote village in Littondale on the banks of the River Skirfare. The village green features a lovely array of daffodils in April (photo 1) and of buttercups in June. The road behind the Falcon over the fells to Malham is scenic magic.

The inn sign showing the falcon in flight (photo 3) has now been replaced by the sign showing a perching falcon visible on the close-up of the pub (photo 2).
