This whitewashed pub in the hamlet of Starbotton is surrounded by the hills of Upper Wharfedale. The inn is a 400 year old farmworkers cottage which became a pub in the 1840s (photo 1). Inside it has a flagstone floor, wooden beams and a large stone fireplace (photo 3).
The lunchtime menu is geared towards walkers and the evening menu is focussed on traditional pub grub. There’s a good range of ales from local breweries and there are usually five on tap. There are four letting rooms plus a self-catering apartment.
The inn sign shows a happy fox who has outwitted the hunt (photo 2).
