The Fox is an attractive Cotswold stone pub right on the village green in Broadwell (photo 1). Inside you’ll find a stone-flagged floor, exposed stone walls and jugs hanging from beams.

On two previous cycling trips to the Cotswolds I managed to arrive just after the 3.00pm closing time which meant a steep climb up to nearby Stow-on-the-Wold to find a beer. I finally made it a couple of years ago for Sunday lunch and a pint of Donnington BB which comes from the brewery just 3 miles away. All the Donnington beers are sold, and the pub is a Good Beer Guide regular. Food is available lunchtimes and evenings.

The oblong inn sign dates from from one of my earlier visits in 2006 and is no longer there, but I love the impressionistic painting of the fox in the snow about to pounce on the unsuspecting bird (photo 2). The plaque which has replaced it shows the tankard and barley logo of Donnington Brewery (photo 3).
