Aysgarth in Wensleydale is perhaps best known for its waterfalls, but the village is attractive in its own right. The George and Dragon is an old coaching inn built early in the 1700s and today is an old fashioned country hotel (photos 1 & 2).

It has a traditional interior with wood panelled walls, a solid old oak bar and an open fire. The restaurant area around the corner from the bar is in what was once the coach house which used to accommodate carriages used in the days of stagecoaches.

Five real ales are served, many from local breweries and meals include breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. Several ensuite rooms are available.

The colourful inn sign is is a bit of fun, showing George and the dragon as cartoon characters (photo 3).
