Hales Bar, Harrogate

1-3 Crescent Rd
Harrogate
North Yorkshire

Hales Bar was one of the first inns set up to cater for spa visitors and is situated across the road from the famous Royal Pump Room. It was built in 1827 on the site of an earlier inn and is the oldest pub in town (photo 1).

The saloon bar is beautifully preserved with mirrors, gas lighting and other artefacts from Victorian times (photo 2). Behind the bar are a number of original wooden spirit casks where whisky and rum were served straight from the barrel (photo 3).

The pub sells a varied range of real ales and has been in the annual Good Beer Guide for most of the past 20 years or so. There is a weekly open mic night and a Sunday afternoon acoustic session.
