The Highbury Vaults is a narrow but long pub with several rooms and a largely unspoilt wood-floored interior. There is a lovely old Victorian snug front right with a wonderful green painted bar counter and 1936 handpumps. Down the passage to the back is another old bar, this one dating from the 1930s. Outside there is a covered patio with heating and impressive foliage.
The pub is owned by Youngs of London but also sells a range of beers from other breweries. The pub is open all day and food is served lunchtimes and evenings.
It’s said that condemned prisoners would have their last meal here before being hanged at the gallows at the top of the hill.
