This place has a well stocked bottled beer shop on the ground floor and a quirky bar on the first floor. It’s in a timber-framed building with overhanging jetties dating from around 1600 and is listed Grade 2* (photo 3).
The bar has a timbered open roof with an impressive collection of stuffed animal heads (photos 1 & 2). There is a small timbered snug (photo 5) and the main bar area has a large fireplace with a stuffed boar and a very unsettling stuffed dog (photo 4).
There are three cask beers and a larger selection of keg and bottled beers. Bottled beers from the shop can be drunk in the bar but beware the corkage charge. There’s an interesting menu and food is available all day.
There’s a larger, sister pub with the same name not too far away on Lendal. The Trembling Madness is probably better known as Delerium Tremems, or the DTs.
