The Kings Arms is a genuinely old thatched village pub in the Dartmoor National Park (photo 1). The building dates from the 1600s but there was almost certainly a cider house on the site long before that – the pub claims 14th century. A pub porch is usually a later addition but the one at the Kings Arms was was built at the same time as the rest of the pub (photo 2).

The pub stayed as a cider house (serving only cider) until relatively recently but now serves a range of beers and food. As you might guess from the sign in photo 2, it regularly promotes live music and is one of the venues for the Dartmoor Folk Festival. It also holds a weekly quiz. The pub is closed on Tuesdays.
