The Kings Arms is one of very few truly unchanged simple rural locals. It’s a thatched and cream-washed pub dating from the 16th century and has hitching posts for horses outside (photo 1).  The pub’s other name is the Low House, to distinguish it from the village’s other pub and because of its position below the church and graveyard (photo 2).

As you walk into the pub the first thing you see are three high settles which form their own little room, and create a corridor behind which leads to the serving area (photo 3). I say serving area because there is no bar counter, and ale is poured straight from casks on a stillage. You can see the casks at the end of the corridor in photo 3.

This room, like the card room to the right and the tap room further along, all have red and black quarry tiled floors. The room to the left is the dining room where food is served Friday evenings, all day Saturday and Sunday lunchtime. Beers are from Suffolk breweries Shortts and Green Jack, and Taylors Landlord all the way from Yorkshire. Three ensuite letting rooms are available in the  Old Stables, a separate building.

The pub has been community owned since 2018 when a group of locals formed the The Low House Community Interest Company to buy the pub from Adnams. Profits made so far have been used to pay for for essential repairs to building fabric and the thatched roof.
