Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater

The view from the Kirkstile Inn over to the conical peak of Mellbreak is stunning, and is reason alone to visit the pub. It sits between Loweswater and Crummock Water in the glorious scenery of the north western Lakes.

The pub has its own brewery, Cumbrian Legendary Ales, now based in Hawkshead but supplying all of the Kirkstile’s cask beer. Six of their ales are usually on draught, including the hugely popular Loweswater Gold.

The pub dates from the 16th century and inside it is proper country inn with stone walls, beams and open fires. It is open all day, and despite its remoteness you will need to book a table for lunch or dinner. There are nine rooms to let, all of them ensuite.

A scenic circular walk from the pub was published in the Guardian in July 2022 in their popular A Pub Walk series.
