The Old Queens Head is a real oddity, a Tudor timber-framed building next to the bus station and high rise offices. The timbers have been tree-ring dated to between 1503 and 1510. It is a Grade II* listed building that was once the hunting lodge for Sheffield Castle which was just to the north. It became a pub in the 18th century and was named after Mary Queen of Scots who used the lodge during her imprisonment at the castle.

Thwaites Brewery took over the pub a few years ago and three of their beers are sold along with three beers from local breweries. It is one of the few pubs in the centre of the city to have an outdoor seating area. Food is served, there is sport on TV and a number of local groups have their meetings here.
