The Pivni is in a remarkable Grade II* listed timber framed building with overhanging jetties, dating from around 1600 (photos 1 – 2). Downstairs is a small bar and on the upper two floors are more rooms which combine old timbers with neon signs to give an ancient/modern feel (photos 3 – 5).

Pivni (Czech for beer) was the first bar opened by York based beer supplier Pivovar (Czech for brewery). They have since opened the York Tap at the station and two other Taps in Sheffield and Leeds. An ongoing collaboration with Thornbridge Brewery has seen them open pubs in Leeds, York and Birmingham, with more planned.

Like all Pivovar pubs, Pivni has a large range of both cask ales and craft beers, and a good selection of bottled beers. Food is limited to snacks like pork pies.
