Traditional village pub

The Red Lion is an 18th century pub on the village green of the picturesque Peak District village of Litton (photos 1 & 2). It’s built from local White Peak limestone and has several rooms, some with wood panelling and open fires (photos 3, 4 & 5).

The pub has a great choice of real ales, including regulars from Abbeydale (Absolution) and Peak Ales (Bakewell Best Bitter) with guest ales from Derbyshire and South Yorkshire breweries. Good quality food is served all day from Friday to Sunday and lunchtimes and evenings midweek. I can recommend the lunchtime sandwiches! It’s a busy pub, especially at weekends and its worth booking a table if you want food. The village green is right outside and if the sun is shining make sure you grab one of the bench tables. There’s a monthly quiz on the first Monday and two ensuite rooms are available.

Well Dressings can be found in many Peak District villages between May and September and Litton’s is on the green in June. A well dressing is a floral display or image on a clay frame and celebrates a reliable water supply. The Red Lion holds a beer festival at the same time.
