Traditional Village Pub, 3* Heritage Pub

The Royal Oak in Ockbrook manages that rare trick of being a destination food venue as well as a top drinkers pub with good ale. It has has been in the Wilson family for over 70 years and while much has changed in that time it still retains its wood panelled snug, an ancient settle and a commitment to maintaining a traditional and convivial pub with a cosy atmosphere.

The pub has been in the Good Beer Guide for 30 years and there are 3 changing ales with Draught Bass on all year round. It organises two beer festivals a year with an imaginative twist. Each features ales from a different UK region which in 2024 were the Derbyshire Peak District in May and Kent in October.

There’s frequent live music in the function room or the outside marquee from mostly local bands, including the Ockbrook Big Band who are based at the pub.

There is an hourly bus service from Derby during the day but no buses in the evening.
