The Rutland Arms is one of those Southsea oddities, a corner local in an impressive and imposing building. It’s a community pub with a loyal following and is especially busy before and after the home games of Portsmouth FC. Their ground, Fratton Park, is only half a mile away.
There are normally two cask beers from local breweries like Irving and Urban Island. The pub has a good range of whiskies, from Scotland, Ireland and even Japan.
It was built in 1898 By pub architect A.E. Cogswell for Pike Spicer Brewery. This was a time when the Portsmouth brewers were trying to outdo each other in the grandness of the their new pub designs.
