The Stag is a beautiful and little changed pub at Balls Cross in rural West Sussex. It dates from the late 1700s and at the turn of the 19th century it merged into the shop next door to give us the pub we have today (photo 1).

The left entrance (photo 2) takes you into the unspoilt public bar (photo 3). The photo shows the previous landlord who left at the end of 2018, and who was justifiably proud of the way the pub has been preserved. The bar has large Horsham flags, a counter dating from the 1930s and an inglenook fireplace.

New(ish) licensees Phil and Anne-Marie continue to provide great service with beers from the Badger Brewery like Fursty Ferret and Tanglefoot. Food is served Wednesdays to Saturdays lunchtime and evening and Sunday lunchtime from a traditional pub-grub menu.
