The Station Inn has been a reliable destination for cask beer for several years now with up to eight available in the summer months, and a couple less in the winter. Beers usually include Wainwright Amber and Gold and Taylor’s Landlord with a well chosen selection of guest beers from mainly northern breweries.
It’s a substantial building with three rooms, a large open plan main bar at the rear, the lounge to the left (more of a snug really) and a larger room front right. As the name suggests, it’s just across the road from the rail station which has services to Middlesbrough and beyond on the British Rail line and to Pickering on the wonderfully scenic North York Moors Railway.
The pub is also close to the bus station with services south to Scarborough and north to Staithes and Redcar. The harbour with its pleasure steamers and fishing boats is a short walk. The pub doesn’t serve food but the awarding winning Trenchers fish and chip restaurant is just two doors along.
The pub is full most weekend evenings especially in the summer, and is even busier during Goth weekends and Whitby Folk Week when the snug is rammed. There’s live music the rest of the year as well with sessions four nights a week. There’s a smartphone quiz on Thursday evenings and live sport on TV. There are four ensuite rooms.
