Still & West, Portsmouth

The Still and West was once a Gales Brewery pub which, like the Fifth Hants Volunteer made it an essential stop on my visits to Portsmouth. Now it’s owned by Fullers of London who still brew some Gales beers and sell them here.

It was always known as the the ‘Still & West Country House’, even back in Gales’ days but it seems to have recently dropped the ‘Country House’ bit. Which seems fair, given that it’s a city pub on the edge of the sea.

Its location makes it a great place to watch the ships and boats in the harbour and it’s always full of tourists. If it’s too cold to sit outside there is a conservatory on the first floor with all round views. The pub opens at 9.30am for breakfast and food is available all day.
