Modern Pub
The Tetley is a shrine to the famous brewery that once stood behind, and sits in the company’s former offices. In front of the bar is a large L-shaped display cabinet full of old trays, signs, pump clips, bottles and more commemorating Tetley’s Brewery and a few of the breweries they acquired over the years.
I grew up in Leeds and Tetley adverts were everywhere, but it took me a few years before wondering why an overweight upper class huntsman with a monocle would appeal to the largely working class clientele of the brewery’s pubs.
The memorabilia continues around the walls of this quite large pub and, as well as Tetley’s, shows historic artefacts from of dozens of other UK breweries. It’s all from the collection of Kirkstall Brewery owner Steve Holt, who not only has a huge treasure trove of breweriana but his own pubs to display it in. A collector’s dream!
Tetley Bitter is available of course, along with three or four beers from Kirkstall and one from a guest brewery. Food is available until 8pm.
