Vine Inn, Manchester

The Vine is in the heart of the Central Manchester drinking circuit, always busy but with many customers just passing through. It still has its wonderful green tiled and glazed brick frontage with a splendid mosaic tiled frieze with the pub name (photo 1). The design on the frieze is copied on the charming stained glass window above the right entrance door (photo 2).

There is a main bar at street level and the Malt & Cask Bar downstair which has a further selection of real ale and a good range of malt whiskies. Despite the passing trade it has the feel of a traditional pub, with its multiple rooms, dartboard, dominoes, board games and weekly quiz. The pub does meals at lunchtimes.

The Vine was originally an 18th century townhouse and is Grade II listed, becoming a pub by the 1880s. The tiled frontage was added later, probably at the end of the 19th century or the early 20th century.
