Traditional Town Pub, 2* Heritage Pub

The Rock calls itself the most famous pub on the Falls Road which may be true, but it’s certainly the one with the most historic interior. It has a similar layout to the more extravagant Crown Bar with a row of five elegant booths (or snugs as they’re called in Belfast) all with stained glass windows. Like the Crown, it has slightly larger snugs in the front corners and it still has its original 1901 bar counter.

It’s a busy and friendly locals pub with a fine pint of Guinness, and Rockshore, Harp and Carlsberg lagers on tap. There’s live music most nights of the week with folk, pop and acoustic, and rebel songs on Sunday evenings. There’s sport on TV, mostly football, with every Celtic game, plus selected Premier League and Champions League games.

Buses from Castle Street (10A, 10B) will take you up the Falls Road to the Rock Bar or you can catch the G1 Glider from May Street (City Hall). The G1 Glider is a bendy bus that links East and West Belfast via the centre, so you can catch it from the Rock Bar on the Falls all the way to Boundary Brewery Bar and Bullhouse East on the Newtownards Road.
