Traditional Town Pub, 1* Heritage Pub

The Griffin is an Edwardian pub with an original wood and etched glass frontage in a splendid Category B listed tenement building (photo 1). Much of the Edwardian splendour remains inside with a series of snugs around the walls with wood and stained glass screens (photos 2 & 3). Against the front wall, lit by the art nouveau etched glass panes, is a row of more recent red upholstered seating booths (photo 4).

The pub is owned by Skye Brewery and serves their Gold, Red and Black cask ales with one guest. Keg beers include Skye IPA, Blonde and Craft Lager along with Neck Oil, Moretti, Cruzcampo and Guinness, plus Inch’s cider. There’s a full range of their bottled beers as well. The Griffin also has a decent range of malt whiskies with over 40 available, including as you might expect, Talisker from the Isle of Skye. The food has an Isle of Skye theme as well and includes a Scottish charcuterie board which sounds interesting.

If you fancy a short pub crawl the Griffin is just 3 minutes walk from the State Bar and less than 10 minutes from the Bon Accord, both in this guide.
